Hiya A-Wing Parents!
Over the past week we have had the biggest event of the school year, Clash of the Halls! We were given the color of orange. As a hall, we chose to have our theme be 01’ West. Students were able to show their creativity through various events. Some of the events include Facebook profile pictures, talent show, drill, movie, mural, t shirt design, and decorations! Our hall won the talent show for the 3rd year in a row! Our heads for the event were Alyssa and Emilia Daniels. We showed some super cool talents such as dancing, playing instruments, singing, juggling, acting, and many more! We were all super excited that all the hard work paid off in the end! Have an amazing break! Bridget Bunt A-Wing Wing Guide --------------------------------- Hi A-Wing Parents, At this point, the news has broke that all students will be doing online-learning from home from now until the end of the semester. While there are still a lot of unknown components, I want you to know that I will continue to support your students. Hello 1501-A Parents! This month, we focused mainly on sleep through last year’s Year of Inquiry Sleep Initiative. We set up a chart so that each member of A-Wing could track their individual sleep and grow from some bad habits that we had in the past regarding sleep. We had three programs to help our sleep — aromatherapy, meditation, and tea. We made small personalized essential oil air fresheners with 4 different scents. Everyone got to customize their mason jars with different scents, colored papers, and patterns on top! Another week, we did meditation and yoga in the wing and learned Shavasana’d. We also brewed tea with B wing. We had various teas donated and had new teas that we had never tried before. All of these programs promoted relaxation and healthy sleep! Additionally, on the Monday before Mardi Gras, we made 130 paczki for the hall. It was fun to see the hall come together and participate in this program. It was messy, but delicious! We also discussed healthy relationships with D wing, directed by RC Emily and RC Rafael. It was fun discussing healthy relationships with D wing and hear their perspectives. All in all, February has been a long, eventful month. Clash has been taking off as schoolwork piles up and “the grind” continues.
On Tuesday evening we had a wing dinner with various pastas. Our wing parents brought mac and cheese, ravioli, and many more! We also had various breads and desserts to go along with the amazing entrees. Thank you to all of the amazing parents who donated and who were able to put the wing dinner on! -1501-A Wing Guides Hello 1501-A Parents!
It has been an eventful two weeks in 1501-A. In the month of February, our wing has focused on IMSA’s Year of Inquiry goal of focusing on sleep. Every Tuesday in February, A-Wing has held programs based off of healthy sleep habits. The first Tuesday, A-Wing and B-Wing got together and discussed the benefits of tea. Tea is great for relaxing and calming yourself before bed. The second Tuesday, A-Wing discussed the benefits of mediating before bed – taking a few moments to calm your head before bed is beneficial for healthy sleep and calming anxieties. The third Tuesday, after Extended, A-Wing will making aromatherapy jars with different essential oils that promote relaxation. Monday night, the A-Wing had a program with D-Wing on Relationships and Dating. RC Emily & Rafael discussed what healthy relationships, both platonic and romantic, should look like. We also discussed the signs for unhealthy and abusive relationships. A- and D-Wing were then able to ask questions to the RCs about scenarios they have encountered and were able to learn from the group. It was a great program and the students found it very helpful. We have some programs planned for the end of February, but the wing is eagerly waiting for CLASH season to start! We already have so many students in A-Wing hoping to take lead on some of the events that we participate in for CLASH. It will be a good year for 1501. Stay tuned for updates from CLASH. We are two days out from Extended and the wing is excited to have a few days off from school. Please remember to talk with your students about when you plan on picking them up from campus on Thursday (if applicable). Please plan to arrive well before 5pm, in order to assure you will not be charged for any time over 5pm. As a reminder, every 5 minutes past 5pm is a $25 charge to your student’s account. Once your student has completed their Wing Clean and have passed their Room Inspection, they are able to leave campus. If you have any questions about the process, please feel free to reach out to Emily or the RC Office at (630) 907-5101. Until next blog post, RC Emily Hello Parents of 1501A!! Happy New Year!! This year has already started off on a good foot with a program about the importance of setting goals for yourself! Then we had the A Wingers set a goal for the second semester! Many of which included getting a 4.0 gpa, getting more sleep, and being more active. We also had a small program on 1/27 with people writing encouraging messages to others in the wing. We had everyone write on the pink hearts and we displayed all of the messages on our Valentine’s Day tree. For the month of February, we are going to do a sleep initiative in the wing. We are going to have a tracker displayed in the Wing and we are going to have live graphs every night at check to see how much sleep everyone is getting each night. Every Tuesday we are going to have different programs to see if the amount of sleep that the A Wingers get each week increases. Some of the programs include tea drinking, aromatherapy, meditating, and many more!! If you are able to donate supplies to the event that would be amazing! Some supplies we are in need of are teas, cups, small mason jars, baking soda, and essential oils! We need some teas by February 3rd! The supplies for aromatherapy can be brought anytime from now until 2/25. We are very appreciative of anything that you are able to bring! **Here is the link to the sign up sheet https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/19C_gYxTHcg-H0wgouJNKkiN4AxC4vvT9NXr2fbPSIK0/edit?usp=sharing We are looking forward to another amazing semester and we can’t wait to see all of the parents on parent day! Love, 1501 A-Wing Wing Guides Hello 1501 A Wing Parents!! Happy Holidays!! This week A Wing has been very eventful. On Wednesday, December 11th, Mr. and Mrs. Daniels treated A Wing to some amazing Filipino food. We were celebrating Emilia’s 15th birthday! They also brought a cake to celebrate the rest of the December birthdays which were Jiliann, Erin, and Bridget! Thanks to the Daniels family for an amazing variety of Filipino foods! On Thursday, December 12th, We did the white elephant game. For people who aren’t familiar with the game then everyone playing would either buy a gift under $10 or re-gift a gag gift as your gift. Then everyone would pick a number for the hat and the lowest number would take gift from under our holiday tree. The second person could either steal from the first person or they could take a new gift from under the tree. There was a variety of gifts such as fuzzy socks, candy, dolls, and a pop up tent! This was a very enjoyable program from the looks of the pictures! Also, Alex and I (but mainly Alex since I am an awful cook) made cookie bake! It was super yummy and was the perfect thing we needed right after the White Elephant game! Thank you to all the parents for being very supportive of A Wing this semester and we look forward to another amazing semester ahead of us! Love, Bridget Bunt 1501 A-Wing Wing Guide *PS Here are many photos from some of the events!!! Hello 01 A Parents! Following wing wars last month, our wing is now taking a bit of a break as the IMSA campus gets ready for finals. Many of our members have participated in the Indian Student Association’s Annual Diwali show. This year, the show included an immigrant’s story as well as several modern and traditional dances. After months of practice, the show was a success on the 22nd and 23rd! On Sunday the 17th, we had our very own Thanksgiving complete with chickens, stuffing, mashed potatoes, cranberry sauce, green beans, mac and cheese, and, of course, pies. Turns out, toaster ovens and hot plates can be made to have nearly identical functionality to convection ovens and stovetops! That week, we also had a baked goods social thanks to Mrs. Burnham. See pictures below. Moving into next month, we’ll be having an event with 1505 C wing and are looking for parent donations if you happen to see one of these items at the store or have it laying around.
Have a Happy Thanksgiving! The 01 A Wing Guides Hello!!! In the past week, we have had some very exciting activities going on in our wing! The week of October 21st, our hall had wing wars. This exciting week was filled with A-wing dominating many of the competitions, such as Money Wars, Iron Chef, Wing t shirt, and Door Decorations. You can find more information about Wing Wars from the CD and MA blog! On Wednesday, October 30th, A-Wing had their dinner date! This is a unique opportunity for students to get to know other students around the IMSA campus. The theme of our dinner date was Saturday Morning. Which means that we had cartoons playing, various cereals, and comfy clothes. Thank you to all of the parents and students who donated various items to make our dinner date a success! Coming up we are in the process of planning some fun and educational events for A-wing, so stay tuned! P.S. Look down for some pics from our dinner date and Wing Wars! Love, Bridget Bunt 1501 A-Wing Wing Guide We are back from Extended this week! I know many of the students loved the time off and having the chance to spend time with family and friends from home. The last time we blogged, we were heading into Mental Health Initiative (MHI) week. The students were able to attend events such as a Build-a-Bear, Therapy Dogs, Aroma Therapy, "Burn your Stressers," "I Care About You" cards, and the ISP event "Helping Hand." Two of our students participated in "Helping Hand" and you can see their photos below (Photo Credit ISP): During MHI week, the wing discussed ways we could relieve stress within our "Mental Health Toolkit." We talked about the different stressers we have and various ways we could help one another relieve stress. The wing is very excited for our Dinner Date on October 30th from 9:00pm-10:30pm! We are looking for donations from parents to help make this dinner date go off without a hitch. If you are interested in donating items or helping with the dinner date, please let me know.
Hello! It has been an exciting few weeks at IMSA! After our last blog, we entered Homecoming week. All of the students were SO excited for the events during Homecoming week - Meet your Match, Game Show, Capture the Flag, Pep Rally, and of course, the dance. For the RCs, Pep Rally was our favorite event. A few of us even preformed a drill dance for the students! (Photo Credit: ISP) Our students even enjoyed performing drill for their classes! See below for some fun pictures. (Photo Credit: ISP) On Saturday, September 21st, our students had the opportunity to go to the Homecoming Dance. (Photo Credit: ISP/Josiah Payne) We are now entering Mental Health Week! We have our program on Bully/Hazing and we will also be discussing what is in our "Mental Health Tool Kits." Examples from this program will show our students the resources that they have in order to work towards a healthy lifestyle. Our wing is also planning a "Saturday Morning Cartoons" Dinner Date and we are in need of donations! Our Wing Guides are looking for breakfast cereals and other simple breakfast foods for this event. We are planning on doing this towards the end of October! Please reach out to Emily if you have questions! Finally, I wanted to share the information for our upcoming Extended Weekend! I will send a follow up email with this information in the next few days, but I wanted parents to have this information now so they can plan accordingly with their student! Please read this document fully and reach out if you have questions! We are off to a great start in the new academic year! In the past few weeks we have had a number of events - Convocation, Welcome Week, Birthday Celebrations, Wing Dinners (Huge "Thank you" to Sabrina's parents!), and a number of programming. We have done all of our mandatory programming: learned (or re-learned) how to do housekeeping, safety drills (which came in handy this past week with the Tornado Warning), we signed roommate and wing contracts, and met one on one with Emily. The wing did RC in a Fishbowl with Emily. In this program, the wing asked questions to Emily in order to get to know her better. We also had a fantastic social program with D Wing in which we played board games! It was fun interacting with the boys and getting to know one another. We are planning on doing a social program with B Wing in the next couple weeks - so stayed tuned. In the next few weeks we will be doing a few more programs, experiencing Homecoming, and will be gearing up for Wing Wars! The wing is very excited for the next few weeks. If you are interested in doing a Wing Dinner or fun activity with the wing, please contact Emily. :) |
